IoT silt control application

Satellite squads

Collaboration with a construction company to create an application where they could manage flocculant release on their silt ponds. Dosing volume & frequency based on rain events, chemical strength and catchment area. We built a responsive application where they could track and monitor thousands of ponds from a single device. The company also licenses the technology to other civil construction companies in Australasia.

Challenge

  • Greenfields project seeking to build a novel system for silt management
  • Requirement for infield use, including native notifications and alarms
  • Integration into silt dispensing system managed via GSM connection
  • Large environmental risk thus critical importance of high system performance and reliability
  • Complex calculations required to estimate flocculant release levels based on 14 variables

Solution

  • Current system deployed in NZ and AU with over 2,000active devices operational.
  • Highly functional and adjustable reporting systems for end users, available on PC or mobile
  • Simple user management system for easy onboarding of new customers
  • Integrated invoicing system for ‘single-click’ end of bill generation to customers
  • Defensible technology with industry leading analytics and reliability

Client impacts

  • Completed a discovery and scoping phase with client
  • Collaboration & project management with hardware manufacturers and domain experts
  • Application built on Google Firebase, with Node.JS backend, React front end (native and web) and integration into Particle.io IoT system
  • Coordination of dependencies with integrated systems
  • Managed and completed QA and UAT testing
  • Completed end-user training and go-live support
  • Ongoing management and reporting of operationalsystem
